Construction Updates
Each year, the Village of Westmont coordinates, schedules, and performs a number of construction updates that improve our community's infrastructure for our residents and businesses.  Also, the County and State perform various construction projects that may impact our community.  This page has been designed to provide information regarding construction projects that will impact the Village of Westmont in the upcoming year.


Burr Oak Watermain Improvement Project
Contract completion date:  October 2018

Location:  
Burr Oak Drive between Plaza and Chestnut

Description:  
The proposed construction consists of the installation of approximately 1,225 lineal feet of 8-inch PVC water main; 2 pressure connections to existing water main; one 8-inch gate valve with vault; 5 fire hydrants; new water services; complete surface restoration; and other miscellaneous items of work.

Contractor completed grinding of the roadway patch to prepare for final surface course installation.

Roadway patching has started.

Watermain has been tested and is in service.  Contractor has completed transferring all individual services to the new main.  Over the next couple of weeks, contractor will begin landscape and roadway restoration efforts.

Week ending 08/03/2018
Contractor completed installing new 8" PVC watermain from Plaza to Chestnut including all new fire hydrants.  The new main is in process of being pressure tested and chlorinated.  We anticipate taking 1st and 2nd day samples next week.  Upon good test results, contractor is scheduling water service transfers next week.

Week ending 07/27/2018
Pre-Construction Meeting was held on 07/24/2018.  Contractor will be set to begin work on 07/25/2018 with installation of Erosion Control and Tree Protection.  Construction Traffic Signs and Barricades shall be erected and layout shall begin.  Pavement removals shall begin along with watermain installation beginning at Plaza/Burr Oak intersection.

Week ending 06/22/2018
Village Board awarded the contract to Austin Tyler Construction in the amount of $402,870.00.  We are awaiting completion of the construction documents and a schedule for the Pre-Construction Meeting.

Week ending 06/15/2018
The project has been successfully let on 06/12/2018 with Austin Tyler Construction as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin at the end of July 2018.



CBD Alley Reconstruction Project SecE
Contract completion date:  October 2018

Location:  
Central Business District (CBD) Alley bounded by Cass & Linden from Norfolk & Irving

Description:  
Reconstruction of the deteriorated asphalt alley with decorative pervious brick pavers and pervious concrete base for structural stability.  Project also includes storm sewer installation along the alley.

Updates:

Week ending 11/23/2018 (ON HOLD)
Contractor installed temporary asphalt for winter season access.  Contractor is on-hold until Spring 2019 when weather allows continuation of the work.

Week ending 11/16/2018
Contractor pulled forms from curb and began preparing stone base of alley.  A-Lamp also completed asphalt restoration throughout project.  Due to weather (cold), pervious concrete is not favorable to install and A-Lamp will prepare the site for a temporary asphalt layer for the winter next week.

Week ending 11/09/2018
Contractor completed base excavation and also completed curb installation.  Next week the contractor will begin preparing the base for permeable concrete installation.

Week ending 11/02/2018
Contractor completed storm sewer installation and pavement removals along alley.  Next week is base excavation and curbs.

Week ending 10/12/2018
Contractor began some underground work near the Norfolk intersection.

Week ending 10/05/2018
Construction layout began.  Saw-cutting of excavation areas occured.  WM went thru alley to perform last service prior to alley closure.  We anticipate construction to begin next week with pavement removals and storm sewer installation.

Week ending 09/28/2018
Contractor beginning to stage equipment into the area.  Contractor is scheduled to begin work on Monday, 10/01!

Week ending 09/21/2018
Contractor performed required IEPA soil testing and Pre-Construction Video Taping.

Week ending 09/14/2018
Pre-construction Meeting was held on 09/13/2018.  Contractor indicated that mobilization of equipment, erosion control, tree protection, and traffic control shall begin next week.  They will also complete Pre-Construction video of the alley mid-next week.

Week ending 08/24/2018

Village Board awarded the contract to A-Lamp Construction in the amount of $619,374.75.  We are awaiting completion of the construction documents and a schedule for the Pre-Construction Meeting.  Nicor has been performing maintenance on their existing gas main and has wrapped up their construction.

Week ending 08/03/2018

The alley project was successfully let on 07/31/2018 with the apparent low bidder ALamp Concrete.  We are reviewing the bid documents and their qualifications.  Staff will make a recommendation to the Village Board shortly.



2018 North Warwick 400Blk Stormwater Improvement Project
Contract completion date:  November 2018

Location:  
Along North Warwick between Melrose and Traube

Description:  
Construction of two (2) detention facilities (approximately 11,000 CY of earth excavation) to help alleviate flood concerns, roadway resurfacing, sidewalk repairs, re-ditching of the roadway, new storm sewer system, and other miscellaneous work.

Updates:

Week ending 11/02/2018 (LAST UPDATE)
Contractor completed asphalt restoration and began rough grading landscape restoration.  Next week final grading and seeding shall be completed.

Week ending 10/26/2018
Contractor completed roadway base construction at the "middle" of the block.  Asphalt next week!

Week ending 10/19/2018
Contractor completed asphalt driveway installations and began reconstructing the roadway near the new detention facilities.  

Week ending 10/12/2018
Contractor completed sidewalk installation.  Nicor addressed gas service conflict.

Week ending 10/05/2018
Contractor completed 95% of the earth excavation.  Also began sidewalk removals.  We are still awaiting Nicor gas service conflict to be addressed.

Week ending 09/28/2018
Nicor gas main conflict has been resolved.  Earth excavation is 95% completed.

Week ending 09/21/2018
Contractor began earth excavation.  Nicor conflicts have not yet been resolved.

Week ending 09/14/2018
Construction work continues to be delayed due to unforeseen Nicor Gas Service conflicts.  Nicor continues to be unresponsive to our requests.

Week ending 08/31/2018
A majority of the storm sewer has been installed except for locations with Nicor Gas conflicts.  Nicor has been contacted and we are awaiting gas relocation.  Some earth excavation has started; however, due to rain events, work has been temporarily halted.

Week ending 08/24/2018
Contractor completed some pavement removals and began installing storm sewer along Warwick. We expect earth excavation for the basin to begin end of next week.

Week ending 08/03/2018
Resident notices have been hand-delivered.  Contractor has begun to mobilize some equipment and preliminary layout has been completed.

Week ending 07/27/2018

A Pre-Construction Meeting was held on 07/30/2018.  Resident Construction Notices was hand-delivered.  Contractor shall begin mobilizing equipment and materials into the area and will begin installing Erosion Control and Tree Protection.  Expect tree removals and pavement removals to begin next week.

Week ending 07/20/2018

Village Board awarded the contract to Austin Tyler Construction in the amount of $956,832.66.  We are awaiting completion of the construction documents and a schedule for the Pre-Construction Meeting.

Week ending 07/13/2018
The project has been successfully let on 07/10/2018 with Austin Tyler Construction as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin at the beginning of August 2018.



FDHQ Regional Stormwater Detention Project
Contract completion date:  November 2018

Location:  
Fire Department Headquarters @ 6015 S. Cass Avenue and 61st Street

Description:  
This project consists of the expansion the existing detention basin located at the northeast corner of the 61st Street and Cass Avenue intersection. Proposed sewer will be added and existing storm sewer will be upsized and connected to the proposed facility. The outfall of the facility will run down 61st Street and connect to the existing Village storm sewer system. In addition, resurfacing of 61 st Street from Cass Avenue to Williams Street and associated sidewalk and curb repairs will be included in this contract. The work that will be performed under the contract consists of construction of a detention basin, flared end sections, drainage structures, storm sewer, sidewalk, combination curb and gutter, HMA surface, naturalized plantings,
landscaping, and all incidental and collateral work necessary to complete the project as shown on the plans and as described herein.

Week ending 12/07/2018
Contractor finishing storm sewer installation along the east side of Cass Avenue and in-and-around detention basin.  Next week...begin earth excavation for the basin!

Week ending 11/30/2018
Contractor completed storm sewer installation across Cass Avenue.  Contractor installing storm sewers along the east side of Cass Avenue.

Week ending 11/23/2018
Contractor completed a portion of the public sidewalk along the west side of Cass.  Also finishing some storm sewer punch list items in preparation of crossing Cass Avenue.  AT&T restoring Fiber Optic lines on west side of Cass Avenue.

Week ending 11/16/2018
Contractor completed 54" storm sewer along Cass Avenue and will continue the storm sewer across Cass Avenue the week after the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Contractor shall complete miscellaneous work during the short week next week.

Week ending 11/09/2018
AT&T temporarily relocated their Fiber Optic line and the Village's contractor began installing the 54" diameter storm sewer from 61st Street south towards 63rd Street.

Week ending 11/02/2018
Contractor continuing earth excavation in the eastern basin and completing the retaining wall.  Contractor also excavating along Cass Avenue to expose the AT&T Fiber Optic conflict line.

Week ending 10/26/2018
Contractor continuing retaining wall installation and earth excavation in the eastern basin along Beninford Lane.  Contractor also beginning excavation for storm sewer crossings on Cass Avenue.

Week ending 10/19/2018
Contractor began retaining wall installation and earth excavation in the basin along Beninford Lane.

Week ending 10/12/2018
Contractor began driveway and curb restoration along 61st Street and at FDHQ.

Week ending 10/05/2018
Contractor completed driveway removals and replacements along Cass and 61st.

Week ending 09/28/2018
Contractor completed a majority of the storm sewer installation along the east side of Cass Avenue.  Some driveway sidewalk removals began.

Week ending 09/21/2018
Contractor completed a majority of the storm sewer along 61st Street.  Operations moved to the east side of Cass Avenue with installation of storm sewers in front of the FDHQ.

Week ending 09/14/2018
Contractor continuing to install storm sewer along 61st Street from the westerly end of the project towards Cass Avenue.  Miscellaneous earth work has begun.

Week ending 08/31/2018
No work this week.  Contractor to begin storm sewer installation along 61st Street next week.

Week ending 08/24/2018
Soil Erosion and Tree protection installation began.  Equipment has been mobilized. Some earth excavation has started at the FDHQ properties.

Week ending 08/03/2018
Pre-Construction meeting was held on 07/31/2018.  Contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin work on 08/20/2018.

Week ending 07/06/2018
Village Board awarded the contract to Copenhaver Construction in the amount of $1,872,981.08.  We are awaiting completion of the construction documents and a schedule for the Pre-Construction Meeting.

Week ending 06/29/2018
The project has been successfully let on 06/26/2018 with Copenhaver Construction as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin at the end of July 2018.



2018 Roslyn / West End / Burlington Storm Sewer Project
Contract completion date:  November 2018

Location:  
Roslyn / West End / Burlington Corridor

Description:  
Construction of new storm sewer along West End and Roslyn to Burlington to help alleviate flooding concerns. Construction includes 300 feet of 24" PVC storm sewer, 1,400 feet of 18"/12" trenchless installation, pavement repairs, and other associated work.

The project is scheduled for a Bid Opening on July 10th.  We anticipate construction to begin mid-July 2018.

Week ending 10/19/2018 (LAST UPDATE)
Contractor completed landscape restoration and pavement markings along West End, Roslyn, and Burlington.

Week ending 10/12/2018
Roadway patching is completed.  Contractor intends to complete landscape restoration next week.

Week ending 10/05/2018
Roadway asphalt patching beginning (grinding pavement).  Completed asphalt driveway restorations.

Week ending 09/28/2018
Concrete driveways and sidewalk replacements are completed.  Next week asphalt restoration is scheduled.

Week ending 09/21/2018
Concrete curb and gutter restoration completed.  Concrete pavement patching to begin next week.

Week ending 09/14/2018
Completed storm sewer along all sections (Burlington, West End, and Roslyn).  Contractor completed jetting/compaction of the trenches.  Next week, contractor shall begin pavement restoration.

Week ending 08/31/2018
Storm sewer along Burlington to Roslyn completed.  Contractor to continue storm sewer installation along Roslyn next week.

Week ending 08/24/2018
Storm sewer along a portion of Burlington and north on West End is completed.  Contractor installing storm sewer along Burlington to Roslyn.

Week ending 08/03/2018
Preliminary investigations have been completed and the contractor has begun to mobilize materials and equipment into the area.  Expect installation of storm sewers to begin next week.

Week ending 07/27/2018
Pre-Construction Meeting was held on 07/23/2018.  Village sent out resident notices of the upcoming construction.  Contractor shall begin mobilizing construction equipment and construction signage this week.  Contractor began installing Erosion Control and Tree Protection.  Expect exploratory excavation to begin next week.

Week ending 07/20/2018
Village Board awarded the contract to John Neri Construction in the amount of $738,498.00.  We are awaiting completion of the construction documents and a schedule for the Pre-Construction Meeting.

Week ending 07/13/2018
The project has been successfully let on 07/10/2018 with John Neri Construction as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin at the beginning of August 2018.



2018 MFT Street Resurfacing Project
Contract completion date:  June 2019

Locations:  
TBD

Description:  
Resurfacing of approximately two (2) miles of roadways at various locations throughout the Village.  Project will include surface grinding, base repairs, curb and gutter repairs, sidewalk repairs and ADA improvements, storm sewer rehab, along with other miscellaneous work.  

The project is on-hold until Spring of 2019.
