Public Works - Seasonal

The Village of Westmont, IL (pop. 24,685) Public Works - Seasonal Workers are responsible for performing a variety of routine unskilled manual tasks under the general supervision of a Foreman and/or Crew Leader, including the following:

  • cutting grass and weeds

  • watering plants and vegetation

  • assisting with tree maintenance and chipping

  • assisting with repair of manholes, broken concrete and asphalt pavements

  • general painting 

  • cleaning up after completed jobs

  • other jobs as assigned

This position requires physical strength and agility sufficient to perform strenuous manual labor tasks under varying weather conditions.  Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.  Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, sitting, pulling, pushing or reaching is required as is the ability to communicate effectively and work both as part of a team and independently.

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to three years of high school as well as a working knowledge of hand tools and power tools.   Valid IL Driver’s License preferred.

Starting salary range is $10.00/hr to $12.00/hr (DOQ).  Average weekly hours are 40 hours per week for a maximum of 12 weeks.

Part-time Certified Firefighter/Paramedic
The Village of Westmont is accepting applications for the position of Part-time Firefighter/EMT-P status for the Westmont Fire Department. This is a position with a progressive Department. The Village of Westmont is located in southeast DuPage County and serves an area of approximately eight square miles with a population of approximately 25,000 residents. Included in this area are Golfview Hills, and the North and South Westmont Fire Protection Districts. The Department responded to nearly 4400 fire and EMS calls this past year. The Department is an Accredited Agency and an ISO Class 1.
 
Requirements:
  • Certified as a Firefighter II/ Basic Operations Firefighter.
  • Certified Paramedic within the Good Samaritan system or be able to test into the system.
  • Applicants should be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Salary:
  • Starting wage is $18.26 per hour for Firefighter EMT/P.
  • An additional Incentive per hour is paid for day shifts and Friday & Saturday night shifts.
  • Double time is paid for specified Village holidays.
  • Shifts are twelve hour shifts from 0600-1800 and 1800-0600.
