On August 30, there will be a ceremony to dedicate the Westmont Post Office in honor of James William Robinson, Jr., who sacrificed his life during the Vietnam War and received the Congressional Medal of Honor. The ceremony, which will start at 10 a.m., will be held at the Westmont Post Office, 5707 S. Cass Avenue. The family of James Robinson, Jr, Westmont American Legion Post 338, U.S. Representative Sean Casten, representatives from the Village of Westmont, and U.S. Postal Service officials will participate in the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
MOH recipient James Robinson made the ultimate sacrifice for his country on April 11, 1966 while serving in Vietnam. James was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Division. There were 38 men killed in combat from this unit on this day when Robinson sacrificed himself to advance his unit against the enemy resulting in a victorious battle in which his unit was dramatically smaller than the adversary.
