Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: July 26, 2019
Westmont business Expression Dance Studio recently made a donation to the Westmont Police Department as part of their fundraising effort for Special Olympics Illinois. Several dancers of all abilities from Expression Dance attended a recent board meeting to present a check for $720.00 to Sergeant Gomorczak and Sergeant Weibler. At the “Power of Dance Competition” earlier this year, dancers of all abilities from nine different teams competed. When they won the competition, the dancers chose to donate their prize money to Special Olympics Illinois Torch Run.
This is the first year for Sergeants Gomorczak and Weibler to serve as Westmont Police Department liaisons to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. “When we were presented with the opportunity to help lead movement, we were eager to get involved and help raise funds and awareness regarding athletes with special needs right here in our own community,” said Gomorczak. “Our monetary goal is to pass last year’s personal record total of $16,000, but our real satisfaction will come from knowing that we have contributed to giving special olympic athletes an opportunity that can really change their lives. All of this would not be possible without the continued support of our entire Department, our volunteers, and the entire community.”
Expression Dance has supported Illinois Special Olympics for several years and often participates in fundraising events and provides entertainment. Overall, Expression Dance has donated $1,495.00 to Special Olympics. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising movement benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.
“At Expression Dance, we have always supported people with varying abilities,” said Amber Alonzo, owner of Expression Dance. “We offer a wide range of classes that encourage inclusiveness. We are extremely proud of our dancers for making this donation to Special Olympics.”
