On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, Mayor Ron Gunter, Village Manager Steve May, and Fire Chief Steve Riley received a certificate of appreciation for their successful efforts to eliminate the North Westmont Fire Protection District. Following a survey of residents, Westmont officials pursued the dissolution of the North Westmont Fire Protection District, which saves taxpayer dollars without sacrificing fire protection service to the community.
“Thank you to the North Fire District Trustees for all of their hard work and dedication over the years,” said Fire Chief Riley. “ We would also like to thank the North Fire District and its residents for their help as well. The Westmont Fire Department will continue to work hard serving the residents in the North Fire District.”
The action eliminated the district’s annual tax levy and forgave the district’s debt, totaling $300,000 over five years. An additional $11,000 in annual administrative expenses will be redirected to support fire services now provided to those residents by the Village of Westmont’s Fire Department at an equitable rate for all residents.
