Village of Westmont
Date Issued: June 4, 2019
The Westmont Citizens Police Academy Alumni has scheduled a presentation from area sheriffs to be held at the Westmont Police Department, 500 N. Cass Avenue, on Monday, June 10, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. The presenters will be James Mendrick, newly elected Sheriff of DuPage County, and Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to the first 60 people. All attendees should arrive by 6:55 p.m., as there will be no admittance to the building after 7:00 p.m.
James Mendrick has been with the DuPage County Sheriff’s office for over 23 years. He has risen through the ranks to head the Sheriff’s Office in the second largest county in Illinois. Mendrick was hired in 1996 as a Patrol Deputy and through his career was promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major, Administrative Chief and finally elected Sheriff. Mendrick studied Criminal Justice at Lewis University and completed the School of Police Staff & Command at Northwestern University.
During his time at the Sheriff’s Office, he has been instrumental in significant innovation and achievements such as helping receive 100% accreditation by CALEA, in the process having the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office deemed a ‘Flagship Agency.’
Mendrick’s goals continue to focus on improving our community through active participation in cross agency training and partnerships. He believes that the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is in need of meaningful reform with new ideas, innovative programs, and proven leadership. Along with years of experience that will help create a safe and constructive work environment, Mendrick is bringing a fresh perspective to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office to provide a safer and stronger DuPage County for our residents.
Ron Hain has served in law enforcement for 22 years and has been credited with hundreds of major criminal arrests. Hain has worked in varying capacities; to include narcotics officer, canine handler, SWAT Team leader, and developed, implemented, and supervised the Sheriff's Office Criminal Interdiction Team. He is a nationally recognized expert in interstate criminal and terrorist interdiction. Hain has received five meritorious service awards and two Deputy of the Year awards for several successful major criminal investigations. He was also nominated twice for the Moose Kane County Officer of the year award. Hain also received the nationally presented "Relentless Award" in 2013 for his work in criminal interdiction. In his career, Hain has seized over 4,000 lbs. of dangerous drugs and over $3,000,000 in illicit currency, along with hundreds of illegally possessed firearms associated with those crimes. Hain was elected as Kane County Sheriff in November of 2018 and his team immediately implemented employment diversion programs into the jail, along with medically assisted treatment to support and redirect inmates with drug addiction issues. Sheriff Hain’s focus is to take a zero tolerance approach to drug trafficking while providing positive life paths for the incarcerated and addicted in an effort to drive down recidivism and crime rates.
