[ARCHIVED] 2019 GREEN Speaker Series

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: February 8, 2019

Last year’s GREEN Speaker Series, hosted by the Westmont Environmental Improvement Commission (EIC) and the Westmont Library, had a record turnout. “The EIC and the Westmont Public Library look forward to another Green Speaker Series,” said Westmont Library Assistant Director Brittany Smith. “Last year, we saw great turnout for our programs and received positive feedback from the community.  This year, we will offer programs on natural landscapes, composting, and general gardening.” The Westmont Seed Library will also be hosting a seed swap, where members of the community can learn about the Seed Library and exchange seeds for a more diverse garden in 2019.

The Westmont EIC and Westmont Library will present the following topics in 2019.  All presentations will be held for 60 minutes at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass Avenue:

Habitat Makeover: Adding Wildlife Value to the Landscape
Wednesday, April 17, 7pm
Join Andy Stahr, Principal Landscape Architect and Ecologist for Ecology Vision, for a presentation on naturalized landscapes and ecosystem restoration. Learn how to reduce runoff and better manage stormwater through the use of rain gardens, permeable pavers, native plants, bioswales, and other
green infrastructure techniques.

Seed Swap and Plant Exchange
Monday, April 22, 3pm
Bring your unused seeds and transferred plants to the library, swap with like-minded gardeners in your community, and learn about the Westmont Seed Library. All trades will be negotiated between attendees.

Composting: Building your Garden from the Ground Up
Monday, April 22, 7pm
Learn how to improve the health and vitality of your garden by using the organic matter generated in your home and yard.

Registration is required for each of the GREEN speaker series presentations.  All registration will be through the library and begins on Friday, February 15 at 9:30 a.m. Patrons can call to register or register online at westmontlibrary.evanced.info/signup.
