Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: December 21, 2018
At the December 20, 2018 Village Board Meeting, funding was approved for the new Public Works facility. The Village Board voted unanimously to increase the Places for Eating Tax (PFET) by 0.5%, which brings the PFET total now to 2% in Westmont. This new revenue will be dedicated to the funding of a much needed new Public Works facility in Westmont.
“I think this new facility is extremely important to the community,” said Trustee Steve Nero, Chair of the Public Works Committee. “Our Public Works facilities have been long neglected. Westmont has been a innovator and leader in Public Works services for years, and now we will have a facility to match the excellence of our staff.”
The cost of the new Public Works facility is estimated to be $16 million. Funding for the project will come from several areas of the Village Budget including the General Fund, Public Works Operating Fund, Stormwater Management Fund, the Water Fund, and the new PFET. The new facility will be built on the property where the existing Water Division building is now located at 39 E. Burlington.
This dedicated revenue stream will allow the Village to issue bonds to fund the project. "Westmont has a good history of making sound financial decisions, so we anticipate another favorable bond rating," said Westmont Finance Director Spencer Parker. “Once we secure our bonds, we can proceed with the project.”
“We expect this project to begin in 2019,” said Westmont Public Works Director Mike Ramsey. “This will be great for Westmont and will serve the community for many years to come. I want to thank the board, staff, and the entire community for their support for this necessary project.”
