Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: December 15, 2018
More than 50 people from the community participated in the “demolition” event to kick off the new Market Centre development at 63rd and Cass in Westmont. Demolition of the old structure on this property will continue through Spring of 2019, which will be followed by the start of new construction.
“This has been an historic week for Westmont,” said Mayor Ron Gunter. “We participated in the launch of two amazing projects, the FMC Natatorium at Ty Warner Park and the Market Centre development at 63rd and Cass, that will benefit the residents of this community for many decades to come. This is an exciting time for Westmont and we can’t wait for these projects to finally come to fruition.” The Market Centre project, developed by Bradford Real Estate, Kensington Development Partners, and investment partner IM Properties, has been several years in the making.
The “demo” event invited members of the community to participate by grabbing a sledgehammer and taking a swing at the old building that’s soon to be torn down. Residents were also interviewed regarding the importance of this new development on the southside of the community.
Some of the proposed businesses that are scheduled to be part of the development include a multi-screen movie theatre, an LA Fitness “Signature Club” facility, several restaurants including Raising Cane’s, and more. Businesses located near the corner of Cass and 63rd, including Walgreen’s, Burger King, and Italiamo, will be unaffected. The project is expected to open in 2020.
