Date Issued: October 24, 2018
BNSF will be replacing railroad ties from Friday evening, Oct. 26 through Sunday, Oct. 28. BNSF plans to replace 18,000 ties on the center track over an 18-mile stretch between Hinsdale and Aurora. The project may cause BNSF/Metra train delays during construction.
Citizens may hear train horns as early as Thursday, Oct. 25 starting at 10 a.m. as crews begin to prep the work that will be completed over the weekend. Train horns may be sounded throughout the duration of the project.
Motorists and those who reside near the work zone should be advised that the project may block rail crossings for brief periods while the equipment is moving through a crossing. Train horns will sound while trains pass through the work zones.
Metra will cancel four trains on Friday evening and additional train schedules may be adjusted over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, all trains will be subject to a 10-minute construction delay. For detailed information on the schedule impacts, go to
