Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: October 17, 2018
With fall weather kicking into high gear, autumn is marking its arrival with falling leaves that sprinkle themselves across our yards and streets. To help prevent flooding and clogged sewers, residents are asked to please help keep all excess fallen leaves cleared from their yards, gutters and curbs.
Cleaning up also protects the water from pollution caused by the phosphorus released by the decomposition of the fallen leaves, which leads to the development of algae blooms and decreases the oxygen for our local fish. Not only can those leaves create pollution, but they also have the potential to create localized flooding of our storm drains if not properly and regularly cleared.
Following is a video published by DuPage County regarding the importance of keeping storm drains and sewers clear of leaves and other debris.

Waste Management provides a Yard Waste Program for the Village of Westmont from early April to early December, with weather permitting, to make the disposal of leaves easy and convenient for residents. Additionally, during the month of November, residents can put out an unlimited number of kraft paper bags of leaves without a yard waste sticker. Other yard waste such as grass clippings need to be in a separate kraft bag or container and require a yard waste sticker.
