Date Issued: May 24, 2018
Challenge yourself to try something new and explore the community with the Westmont Library Summer Learning Program. The program kicks off on Saturday, June 2 and continues through Saturday, July 28.
“The Westmont Public Library is excited to present the all-ages 2018 summer learning program, Summer 2018: Challenge Accepted,” said ?Alea Perez, Head of Westmont Library Youth Services. “Our program is designed to inspire our community's children and teens to be creative and active participants in their summer experience?.? We want them to have fun through educational activities and reading, to explore our community, to give to others through our Read for a Cause initiative, and to avoid a loss of academic growth while out of school, all while earning prizes.”
This summer, the Youth Program encourages pre-readers through teens to explore and learn by offering prizes for completing reading and activity goals. The Adult Program invites participants to discover new books, movies, and music and attend programs for entries into monthly grand prize drawings. The program also features The Westmont Scavenger Hunt, which is a great opportunity for families to explore the community together by following clues to discover the hidden gems Westmont has to offer.
To continue to build community connections, the Library is bringing back its Read for a Cause incentive initiative for the Youth Program. When participants complete challenges, the Westmont Rotary Club will generously make a donation in their name to one of two amazing organizations - Special Olympics Illinois or the Hinsdale Humane Society.
A total of 283 individuals participated in last year’s summer learning program, which was a 14% increase in participation from 2016 to 2017. Participants read for a total of 1,606 hours and 2,359 attended library summer programs.
The Westmont Library is located at 428 N. Cass Avenue. For more information on the Summer Learning Program, visit westmontlibrary.org/summerlearning.
