On Monday, May 7 at 8:34pm, the Westmont Fire Department received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a vacant house on fire at 108 E. 56th Street in Westmont. Westmont Fire Department personnel arrived within 3 minutes of the 911 call and found heavy fire in the attic of the vacant home, which was recently built and being shown as a model home. Fire Department crews made entry through the front door of the home and made there way up to the second floor and started pulling ceiling and encountered heavy fire in the attic. Crews did a primary and secondary search of the home and confirmed that the home was vacant. “Our Fire Department crews did an excellent job this evening to bring this fire under control within 30 minutes,” said Deputy Chief Steve Riley. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and was later released. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
