[ARCHIVED] Lions Club Red, White & Bar-B-Q Memorial Day Weekend

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: May 7, 2018

Each year, the Red, White & Bar-B-Q Festival (RWBBQ), hosted by the Westmont Lions Club, is held at beautiful Ty Warner Park in Westmont over Memorial Day Weekend. This year’s event will begin on Friday, May 25 and end Sunday, May 27 and is open to the public.  The RWBBQ has live music, an all-ages carnival, and awesome food.  “We have a lot of Bar-B-Q vendors to choose from again this year,” said Jenny Babyar, RWBBQ committee volunteer.  “We also have a lot of new various food vendors to choose from like crab cakes, mac and cheese in a bread cone, italian ice, and more!”

In addition to the festival, which is open to the public, the RWBBQ is also one of the biggest BBQ competitions in the Midwest.  The RWBBQ offers $20,000 in prize money making it the largest Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Bar-B-Q competition in Illinois. The event includes both professional and amateur BBQ competitions.

This year, the RWBBQ has two new competitions. There will be a steak competition, which will be open to the public, sanctioned through the Steak Cookoff Association (SCA). The steak competition will be held on Friday, May 25 at 8:00 pm. If you would like to compete in the steak contest, please visit the RWBBQ website at westmontbbq.com. If you would like to become an SCA judge, visit steakcookoffs.com. The other new event being held this year is a pork loin competition, which is open to the BBQ competitors.
