[ARCHIVED] Environmental Projects Need Volunteers Storm Drain Stenciling April 28 & River Sweep May 19

During the month of May, residents will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, literally, and assist with two different initiatives that will help our local environment.  “We hope that anyone interested in getting involved will sign up and volunteer for these projects,” said Bruce Barker, chair of the Westmont First Committee.  “We’ll need about 100 volunteers total to be successful.”

STORM DRAIN STENCILING PROJECT - Saturday April 28 from 9am to 12pm
The Storm Drain Stenciling Project consists of volunteers working together to spray paint a stencil around stormwater drains so that people know not to put dangerous materials into the storm drain.  All supplies will be provided.  Up to 100 volunteers will be needed for this project.

DUPAGE RIVER SWEEP PROGRAM - Saturday May 19

The Village of Westmont will participate in the DuPage River Sweep Program on May 19 along with more than 20 other communities throughout the County.  This year the focus will be on restoration, specifically invasive specie removal.  Over the years, Westmont volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of garbage out of St. Joseph’s Creek.  The River Sweep is organized by The Conservation Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeast Illinois.
