Better informed 9-1-1 responders are better equipped to help citizens in emergency situations. With the Premise Alert Program and SMART 9-1-1, Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel are aware of critical information that might make the difference in saving lives. Both programs allow citizens to provide important information to emergency responders so that they can more effectively respond to emergency situations involving citizens with these needs.
Established in 2009, the Illinois Premise Alert Program encourages citizens to provide information regarding people with disabilities or special needs. The information provided is entered into our consolidated dispatch center 9-1-1 database. When an address with an Illinois Premise Alert is entered, 9-1-1 dispatchers see the additional information provided and relay that to responding emergency personnel.
The SMART 9-1-1 program allows citizens to store critical care and emergency rescue information online in advance of an emergency. This information is tied to all phone numbers entered including landline and cell phones. Stored information can include children's photos, medical conditions, home addresses of mobile phone callers, number of pets in a home, disabilities, or other rescue-related information. This information is then delivered to 911 emergency dispatchers automatically with any 9-1-1 call placed within DuPage County and other jurisdictions participating in SMART 9-1-1 program.
The registration process for each program is simple. The enrollment form for the Premise Alert Program is available at http://westmont.illinois.gov/DocumentCenter/View/981 and also at the Westmont Fire Department. Forms may be completed by the individual or a parent/guardian. Forms should be returned to:
