Village of Westmont
Date Issued: January 31, 2018
Updated: 12:35 p.m.
At 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, the Westmont Fire Department was dispatched to 6703 S. Park Lane in the Westmont Village Apartments for an activated fire alarm. Several 911 calls were also received while trucks were en route to the location. Upon arrival, fire department companies reported heavy fire on the outside of the building running up the outside wall to the attic. Westmont Fire Department command upgraded the fire to a box alarm and later it was upgraded to a 3-11 fire, which brought in over 35 different fire agencies from multiple communities around Westmont. Over 100 suburban fire personnel were on the scene to bring the fire under control. The fire was under control and then extinguished by 3:30 a.m.
No injuries to residents or fire personnel were reported. Red Cross has responded with assisting residents with finding lodging. None of the buildings are inhabitable at this time.
“Due to the quick response of the Westmont Police Department and the help of residents in the building knocking on doors, we were able to safely evacuate all three buildings with no injuries,” said Westmont Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Riley.
DuPage County Task Force investigators are still investigating the cause of this fire.
