Village of Westmont
Date Issued: January 22, 2018
Last year’s GREEN Speaker Series, hosted by the Westmont Environmental Improvement Commission and held at the Westmont Library, had a record turnout. “It was great to see so many residents eager to make their homes more eco-friendly,” said Village Forester Jon Yeater. “The more residents who participate in this initiative, the greener Westmont will be.”
The Westmont EIC and Westmont Library will present the following topics in 2018. All presentations will be held at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass:
Winter Seed Sowing Class
Wednesday March 14, 2:30 – 3:30 pm
Learn how to sow seeds in winter and make two mini-greenhouses in this hands-on class led by expert gardener and local conservation specialist, Pat Miller. You’ll choose from herb, flower, and vegetable seeds. Materials will be provided.
Beautiful Gardens for Pollinators
Tuesday, April 24, 7 – 8 pm
Learn how to support bees, pollinators, and other wildlife by including well-chosen native shrubs, perennials, and trees in your landscape. Native plants work in any type of garden if you choose plants well suited to your unique garden conditions. Master Gardener and author Beth Botts, a senior writer at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle and former editor and reporter for the Chicago Tribune, will provide tips and ideas.
Energy Efficiency Ideas
Tuesday, May 8, 7 – 8 pm
Learn how to save money and energy with the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program. A ComEd representative will show you how to sign up for weekly usage reports, receive high-usage alerts, enroll in peak time savings to earn bill credits, or hourly pricing to shift electricity use when the market price of electricity is lower to save money and energy. Prizes will be given away!
Registration is required for all of the above and is done through the library. Registration will open on February 15th at 10am. Patrons can call to register or register online at
