“2017 was an outstanding year for the Westmont Public Works Department,” said Public Works Director Mike Ramsey. “We were able to accomplish many meaningful and important projects including stormwater and alley improvements in the Central Business District, the East Richmond Water Main and Resurfacing Project, and removal of all Emerald Ash Borer infested trees. I am proud of our Public Works employees for doing a great job to complete these projects.”

Following is a list of some of the projects completed by Public Works in 2017:

WATER PROJECTS
  • Completed East Richmond Water Main and Resurfacing Project
  • Provided Suffield Gardens Apartments with Westmont water
  • Handled 19 water main breaks and repairs

AWARDS
  • Public Works Director Mike Ramsey received the Clifford E. Fore Award, which is the highest honor for excellence in the waterworks field in Illinois
  • Recognized as a Tree City USA community for the 21st consecutive year
  • Re-named the Making Memories Award in honor of Jim Wright

ADDITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS
  • Upgraded all Central Business District (CBD) pedestrian lights to new LED lights
  • Upgraded Pasquinelli light poles with new LED lights
  • NEW PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY
  • Village Board approved new Public Works Facility and devoted $900K to start project

STORMWATER
  • Completed CBD Alley - Section F - North of Norfolk to Chicago, east of Cass
  • Completed Naperville-Warwick Stormsewer Extension Project - 36-inch pipe installation
  • Jetted/cleaned 19,880 feet of stormsewer
  • Completed installation of new emergency lift station at 39th and Adams detention basin
  • Coordinated Stormwater Stenciling event

SIDEWALK
  • Began installation of public sidewalks on the north side of 61st Street just west of Cumnor Road  - planned completion in 2018
  • Began installation of public sidewalks on the north side of Quincy Street, east of Wilmette Avenue to future Richmond Gardens - planned completion in 2018
  • Provided maintenance for sidewalks on Oakwood Drive

TREE MAINTENANCE
  • Completed removal of all Emerald Ash Borer infested trees 
  • Created Heritage Tree Ordinance
  • Participated in annual Arbor Tree Planting events
  • Planted 350 trees
  • Planted 770 Emerald Ash Borer tree replacements

STREETS
  • Cleaned 1,000 miles of streets
  • Maintained and improved 2,900 feet of ditching - creating swayle 

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS
  • Participated in the Party in the Park event with the Touch-A-Truck Program
  • Coordinated street closures for community events including Cruisin’ Nights, Taste of Westmont, and Luge Tryouts
  • Participated in annual River Sweep Program
  • Managed downtown decorations for community events including Holly Days
  • Initiated the Water Tower Model Building contest with local Jr. High Schools

WATER SERVICE
  • Pumped 869,608,000 gallons of water to residents and businesses
  • Replaced approximately 750 water meters
  • Provided lead testing for Westmont Schools

2018 GOALS
  • Create a Public Works video that encompasses all of the department’s responsibilities
  • Commence work on CBD Alley - Section E
