Village of Westmont
Date Issued: September 21, 2017
The Village of Westmont is coordinating an Historical Essay Contest for its 96th Anniversary celebration in November. This year, the essay contest is open to both students and adults. Entries must be submitted by Nov. 3.
“As we continue our yearly countdown towards our 100th Anniversary in 2021, this year’s theme is Westmont in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's,” said Anniversary Committee Co-Chair Larry McIntyre. “Essays should consider what was happening in Westmont during historical events such as Prohibition, the Great Depression, and World War II.” This theme will also match the eras that will be depicted in the next historical mural project.
“Last year, we had an excellent turnout from our student population. This year we’ve decided to open the contest up to all ages,” said Amy Quattrone, Westmont Jr. High School Assistant Principal and Anniversary Committee volunteer. “Our local history is important and we want to get the entire community excited about it.”
