Village of Westmont
Date Issued: August 11, 2017
Over the past several years, the Village of Westmont has grown its relationship with the Taiwanese community, both locally and abroad. This relationship has brought numerous opportunities to the community including international cultural performances, the creation of a new student exchange program, and various opportunities with economic development.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have the Taiwanese Cultural Center here in Westmont,” said Mayor Ron Gunter. “We are excited to continue this relationship as we enter into a Sister City agreement with Hsinchu County, Taiwan.”
On Monday, August 14, 7 p.m. (please note that the start time is earlier than previously published), the Village Board will have a special meeting to officially create the Sister City program with Hsinchu (pronounced shin-joo). At 7:30 p.m., the meeting will connect with Taiwan via Skype (which will be 8:30 a.m. in Taiwan) to begin the cyber signing ceremony. The event is expected to end by 9 p.m.
The meeting and ceremony is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend. If you have any questions, please contact us at communications@westmont.il.gov or 630-417-0280.
