Village of Westmont
Date Issued: May 16, 2017
The Westmont Environmental Improvement Commission (EIC) has created a new initiative to recruit volunteers to assist with recycling efforts at community events. On Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28, the Westmont Lions Club will present their annual Red, White & BBQ event at Ty Warner Park, and the EIC and Westmont Park District are working together to implement an event-wide recycling program.
Contamination of recyclables is the main concern with recycling at major events. Separating recyclables from trash to reduce contamination as much as possible is the key to a successful program. To do this effectively, the EIC is planning to work with community volunteers who will then assist attendees with placing their trash in trash containers, and their recyclables in recycling containers. Westmont Park District staff will remove & replace with empty bags.
One of the goals of the program is to provide recycling education and awareness with the hope that attendees will learn from this experience and institute recycling practices at home. The EIC encourages everyone to help spread the word and join this recycling effort.
To sign up, visit the EIC page on the Village Website at westmont.illinois.gov/GREEN. For additional information, please call 630-981-6285 or email bvhyfte@westmont.il.gov.
