Village of Westmont
Date Issued: April 20, 2017
The Village of Westmont and the Village of Clarendon Hills invites the entire community to the groundbreaking event for the Richmond Education Gardens & Apiary on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. at the site of the project, which is just east of the Township Highway Department Facility at 318 E. Quincy Street in Westmont. Activities will include garden and apiary presentations and updates, storytime by The Birches, balloon animals by the Clarendon Hills Public Library, and greetings from supporting businesses and community leaders.
“It’s exciting to break ground on this project,” said Jon Yeater, staff liaison to the Westmont Environmental Improvement Commission. “We will have several guest speakers including local elected officials who will talk about the project and the importance educating everyone about protecting our environment. I want to thank all of the volunteers who have worked so hard to get us to this point.”
Richmond Education Gardens and Apiary is a joint initiative between the Villages of Clarendon Hills and Westmont. The site of the project is owned by both Clarendon Hills and Westmont. Once completed, Richmond Gardens will provide a new place in our communities to promote education programs about natural and organic gardening methods and our environment and will feature an apiary, a rain garden, educational displays regarding water conservation and the importance of pollinators, and more.
BRICK PAVER INITIATIVE
& PROJECT FUNDRAISER
The Richmond Education Gardens & Apiary has launched an engraved brick fundraiser. This program is one of the easiest ways residents and businesses can support the development of our community education gardens. Each brick will be permanently displayed at the garden for all to see and enjoy.
