Posted on: March 22, 2017[ARCHIVED] Volleyball Fundraiser For Special Olympics Coordinated Between Village And CUSD 201
Village of Westmont
Date Issued: March 22, 2017
“We were looking to create an event that brings people together in a social setting while supporting a great cause,” said Westmont Police Detective Nick Glynn, who is the School Resource Officer for the community. “We decided a volleyball fundraiser between Police, Fire and District 201 would be a great way to raise money for Special Olympics. We invite the whole community to attend.”
The volleyball fundraiser for Special Olympics will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 7 p.m. at Westmont High School. The tournament will feature four teams, two of which will be from CUSD 201. Donations will be accepted at the door and concessions will be available.
Glynn, who is coordinating the event, hopes that everyone participating in the event will invite their families and friends. During the evening, there will also be a rhythmic dance routine performed by a local Special Olympics athlete. The event schedule will be as follows:
7pm - Semi-Finals
- Fire vs CUSD201 Team 1
- Police vs. CUSD201 Team 2
Halftime - Rhythmic Dance Performance
8pm - Finals
- Championship Match (winners of semi-finals round)
- Consolation Match
“This is part of a new outreach initiative by our Westmont Fraternal Order of Police,” added Westmont Detective Tom Kozielski, President of the FOP. “We will be planning other activities in the near future. Our goal is to grow our personal connection and relationship with the citizens of the community.”
