[ARCHIVED] Environmental Projects Need Volunteers May 13 & 20

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: March 21, 2017

During the month of May, residents will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, literally, and assist with two different initiatives that will help our local environment.  “We hope that anyone interested in getting involved will sign up and volunteer for these projects,” said Bruce Barker, chair of the Westmont First Committee.  “We’ll need about 100 volunteers total to be successful.”

STORM DRAIN STENCILING PROJECT - Saturday May 13
The Storm Drain Stenciling Project consists of volunteers working together to spray paint a stencil around stormwater drains so that people know not to put dangerous materials into the storm drain.  All supplies will be provided.  Up to 100 volunteers will be needed for this project.

DUPAGE RIVER SWEEP PROGRAM - May 20
The Village of Westmont will participate in the DuPage River Sweep Program on May 20 along with more than 20 other communities throughout the County.  The program focuses on coordinating local volunteers in an effort to help clean up our area waterways.  Over the years, Westmont volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of garbage out of St. Joseph’s Creek.  The River Sweep is organized by The Conservation Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeast Illinois.
