To assist residents with information regarding severe weather planning, please use the Village of Westmont’s Severe Weather Safety information page on the Village Website - www.westmont.illinois.gov. If you go to the “Residents” heading, you will be able to find the Severe Weather Safety link. The reference page provides links to valuable winter weather safety tips as well as specific information regarding DuPage County warming centers. A link to this page can be found below.
“When temperatures drop to sub-zero, it’s important that residents know where to find safety information,” says Fire Chief Dave Weiss, who is also the Director of the Westmont Emergency Management Agency (EMA). “The information on our website provides helpful information links regarding Severe Weather Safety. Also, we encourage people to visit www.ProtectDuPage.org for additional safety information.”
“If people find themselves in a situation where they do not have heat and need to find safe shelter, then they can find relief at a temporary warming center,” says EMA Coordinator Dave Lincoln. “Typically, people will eventually contact relatives and friends to assist them as they wait for heat to be restored to their residence.”
Westmont promotes the following locations as designated temporary warming centers:
JOHANIK FIRE STATION HEADQUARTERS
6015 S. Cass
Available 24/7
* Ring bell at the main entrance if visiting after business hours
WESTMONT POLICE-FIRE FACILITY
500 N. Cass
Available 24/7
* Ring bell at the main entrance if visiting after business hours
WESTMONT PUBLIC LIBRARY
428 N. Cass

Additional warming centers may be opened and promoted as needed. If there is an emergency and citizens need to use a warming center but the listed warming centers are unavailable, residents should call 630-981-6300, press #, and say that you are in need of shelter assistance. Westmont EMA will assist citizens in finding a safe place to stay while their homes are without heat. Additional information regarding area warming centers can be found on the www.ProtectDuPage.org website.
