The Westmont-Clarendon Hills Richmond Education Gardens project continues to move forward. There has been several fundraisers over the past few months to support the project including events at Chipotle and Potbelly Sandwich Shop.
The next fundraiser will be on Dec. 7 at Cucinova, 800 E. Ogden at St. James Crossing Shopping Center in Westmont, just west of route 83. Click on the event flyer link below, print out the promotion, and bring it to Cucinova on the 7th. Cucinova will give 15% of the proceeds to the Richmond Education Gardens & Apiary.
Also, there is another fundraiser through Amazon.com. A portion of the purchases made through Smile.Amazon.com for the Clarendon Hills Park Foundation will benefit the Richmond Gardens project.
For the last few years, Clarendon Hills and the Village of Westmont have been working together on the Richmond Education Garden project. This is a unique project which will provide educational and programming opportunities for residents throughout the area. A number of unique features have been proposed for the project including a working rain garden, rain barrel education, an example of a green roof, a hugelkultur, bioswale, native plantings, raised production planters, outdoor classroom area, apiary, and more. An educational curriculum for the garden is being developed by project volunteers and local schools. Additionally, the project is working with the Scarce organization to develop educational materials.
