Village of Westmont
Date Issued: September 21, 2016
“This is very exciting for us,” said Mayor Ron Gunter. “This event will be the kick-off of our 5 year countdown to the Village’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. “I want to thank all of the citizen volunteers who are part of the anniversary committee and working on this project.”
On Nov. 10, the Village of Westmont will celebrate Westmont’s 95th anniversary at the Village Hall, 31 W. Quincy Street. During the Mayor’s report at the Village Board meeting, there will be several exciting announcements and presentations including: the premiere of a new historical display, debut of new historical photos gallery, the announcement and presentation of the winners of the student 95th anniversary essay contest, and the unveiling of the first section of a five-part historical mural.
“I am truly honored to be selected to be the first artist working on this project,” said Westmont Artist Fanny Moy. “I want to thank everyone on the committee for assisting with the historical research necessary for this first mural.” The mural will depict Westmont history prior to our community’s 1921 incorporation as a municipality. Themes featured in this first mural will include the CB&Q railroad, farms, native American trails, the plank road, South Gregg’s School, the Gregg’s milkstop, Excelsior bricks, and more. More information and samples of Fanny’s work can be found on her website at www.fannymoy.com.
The entire community is invited to attend the 95th Anniversary Celebration on Nov. 10 at the Village Hall. Cake and refreshments will be served after the presentation. For additional information, contact the Village at communications@westmont.il.gov or 630-417-0280.
