Village of Westmont
Date Issued: Oct. 16, 2015
“The Lions Club Peace Poster Contest is an international program that has been going on for more than 25 years,” says Westmont Lions Club Member Jim Addington. “We hope that we can encourage students from throughout the community to get involved and share their messages of peace.” The theme of this year’s contest is "Share Peace".
Posters are being sought from students ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15 attending Westmont Jr. High School, Westview Hills Middle School, or Holy Trinity School. Entries should be turned in by students to their teachers by Oct. 26, 2015. Each school will have a first place selection and two honorable mentions. Then the final poster to represent Westmont will be chosen from the first-place contestants from each school. Each first place contestant will receive $50 and each honorable mention will received $10. The overall winner will receive an additional $50. For more contest information, visit www.lionsclubs.org, click on the “How We Serve” link and find the Peace Poster Contest information.
Final entries will then be judged on a regional and State level before moving on to the international competition. At each level, additional prizes are awarded. In the end, one poster will receive an international award of $5,000 and 23 entries will receive $500.
This will be the first time the Westmont Lions Club has sponsored this contest at our local schools. The first place recipients from each of our local schools will be invited to the Oct. 29 Village Board meeting to be recognized for their submissions.
