PRESS RELEASE
Date Published: Oct. 16, 2012
The Westmont Special Events organization is already in full swing planning events for 2013. As always, the not-for-profit corporation is striving to improve community events by soliciting feedback from the public.
“As we’ve done in the past, we have created a variety of surveys to obtain feedback regarding events such as Taste of Westmont, Cruisin’ Nights, Westmont Fresh Marketplace, and the new Road Rally,” says Emily Bandza, WSEC Vice President of Communication. “At this time, we’re promoting a couple of special meetings in which we are inviting the entire community to come and discuss planning for 2013.”
SPECIAL EVENTS PLANNING MEETING
WITH DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES & PUBLIC ON OCT. 22
On Monday, Oct. 22, 6:30pm at Westmont Centre, 1 S. Cass, there will be a special WSEC meeting to which the downtown business community has been specifically invited. The goal of the meeting is to discuss how the WSEC and the business community can best work together to create successful community events. The meeting is open to the public.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
PLANNING MEETING & OPEN HOUSE ON NOV. 12
On Monday, Nov. 12, 6:30pm at Westmont Centre, there will be a community events planning meeting in which the entire community is invited to partake in a discussion regarding plans for 2013. There will be opportunity to learn about the various community events, make suggestions, and even sign up for some free raffles. Once again, this meeting is open to everyone.
“Over the years, the WSEC has worked hard to respond to the suggestions of the community,” says Bandza. “Everything from layout to entertainment, we have listened to the ideas of the community and responded. In fact, one example is that all three of last year’s headline bands for the Taste of Westmont came from resident suggestions. These upcoming meetings will be an excellent opportunity for us to hear from the public and see what people think.” Bandza also mentioned that last year’s Fresh Marketplace farmer’s market event came directly from a suggestion that was made at last year’s public planning meeting.
WSEC REGULAR MEETINGS
MOVED TO THE SECOND MONDAY OF EACH MONTH
Westmont Special Events has recently changed their monthly meeting schedule. The regular WSEC board meetings, which are always open to the public, will now be held on the second Monday of each month. Meetings are usually held at 6:30pm at Westmont Centre, 1 S. Cass Avenue.
“Westmont Special Events is a not-for-profit organization made up of volunteers,” says Robin Gardner, Vice President of Administration. “We would not be able to accomplish these events without the support of our residents. Whether a person is interested in getting involved for a few hours each year or a few hours each week, we definitely have a place for you. It is a great opportunity to get involved with your community, share your talents and meet new people.”
