The Westmont Fire Dept. will host several activities and events in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week.
FIRE DEPARTMENT OPEN HOUSE - OCT. 9
The Fire Dept. will host an Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fire Department Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass Avenue. This year's theme is "HAVE 2 WAYS OUT". The department has several fun and educational activities planned for the public. Some of the activities include equipment demonstrations, a firefighter slide, Children's Fire Safety House, and raffle prizes. Freddy the Fire Truck and Sparky the Fire Dog will also be there to greet visitors. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a live fire flashover demonstration so that people can witness the destructive nature of fire firsthand.
SILENT PARADE - OCT. 12
On Friday, Oct. 12, the Westmont Fire Department will participate in the 18th Annual Silent Parade, which pays tribute to all those who have lost their lives from fire. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. starting at Garfield Street and Chicago Avenie in Hinsdale and then proceed west on Chicago Avenue through Clarendon Hills, Westmont, Downers Grove, and ending in Lisle. A brief ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1101 Kimberly Way in Lisle, will begin approximately 7:45 p.m. The parade will feature fire department vehicles from many of the surrounding communities. The Village invites the entire community to attend.
