The employees of the Village of Westmont want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s coat drive. “We are so thankful for the community’s generosity,” stated Patti Mielcarski. “We could not have done this without the help of everyone involved.” Not only was there a record amount of donations, but there was also a record amount of participation by community organizations and public agencies. Collection boxes were located at the Park District, Library, Maercker School District, School District 201, the Westmont Fire Department, Westmont Police Department, and the Village Hall.
Following is the count of items donated in phase two of the coat drive:
116 adult coats
60 child's coats with 36 of them brand new old navy coats!
4 child's puffy vests
3 adult puffy vests
35 winter hats
4 men's hats
6 baseball hats
3 earmuffs
25 pairs of gloves and mittens
3 men's sweater
1 women's blazer
1 men's all-weather jumpsuit
1 child's snow pants
2 pairs of fuzzy socks
2 pairs of snow boots
and 8 misc pieces of clothing
A total of 274 items were delivered to the People's Resource Center for distribution to area residents in need. This collection was part two of this winter’s coat drive. Previous donations were delivered to the FISH Pantry. The two collections combined generated 477 articles of clothing.
“Both our local food pantries were thrilled to receive the coats,” added Mielcarski. The Village congratulates everyone involved with this effort that helps those in need.
