[ARCHIVED] Westmont Adopt-A-Hydrant Program

Village of Westmont
Published: Oct. 16, 2014

The Village of Westmont Fire Department, Public Works Department, and Westmont First Committee have created the new Westmont Adopt-A-Hydrant Program. The Adopt-A-Hydrant Program is part of the Westmont First Neighborhood Pride Program. The goals of the program are:

SAFETY - Help the Fire Dept. by keeping hydrants snow-free during the winter and installing year-round safety flags!

AESTHETICS - Work with the Village to keep hydrants clean and freshly painted!

PRIDE - Be part of the Westmont Neighborhood Pride Program by getting involved in your community!

CREATIVITY & PRIZES - Sign up and be part of our Adopt-A-Hydrant contest for a chance to win prizes!

“We have over 3000 hydrants in the Village of Westmont,” says Fire Chief Dave Weiss. “If we have as much snow as we did this past winter, we simply do not have the staff power to shovel out all of these hydrants. This program allows residents an opportunity to step forward and assist our community safety effort.”

Citizens can get involved in several ways. Following are the (4) different adoption programs:

COMMUNITY SAFETY ADOPTION - Free
* Agree to keep hydrant snow-free during the winter
and weed-free during the summer

COMMUNITY SAFETY PLUS FLAG - $10
* Agree to keep hydrant snow-free during the winter
and weed-free during the summer
* Sponsor a safety flag for your hydrant

NEIGHBORHOOD PRIDE ADOPTION - $50
* Agree to design artwork and paint your hydrant,
design must be approved by the Village
* Agree to keep hydrant snow-free during the winter
and weed-free during the summer
* Sponsor a safety flag for your hydrant

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP - $75
* Business agrees to sponsor hydrant in the community
and work with local group to paint and maintain
hydrant throughout the year

NOTE: All adoptions are for 3 years

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
* All hydrant adoptions are good for (3) years - hydrants can be re-adopted every three years providing there has been annual maintenance
* Hydrant painting and design parameters include: a) black can only be used to outline images, b) no gluing or attaching items to the hydrant, c) all hydrant designs must be approved by the Village of Westmont, d) all designs must have “safety yellow” significantly incorporated
* Multiple hydrant adoptions are encouraged
* All hydrants are owned and operated by the Village of Westmont
