Village of Westmont
Date Issued: August 11, 2014
On Monday, August 4, 2014, the Westmont Senior Center celebrated the birthdays of six of their active members who are 90 years old or older. Marie Forbes, Gerry Janorski, Sue Meyer, Hazel Mulcahy, Joe Tierney, and Dorothy Horek were all recognized for being active members of the Center over the age of 90.
“These are awesome people,” says Senior Center Director Linda Wonderlin of the citizens involved with the Westmont Senior Center. “They are wise, kind, caring, giving, and active. They are an inspiration to me.”
Dorothy Horek, who was born on March 21, 1922, has been coming to the Westmont Senior Center for years. “It took me a long time to come at first,” says Dorothy, who is now a regular coming every week to Movie Mondays and more. Dorothy explained how she got involved with the community, “When we first moved to Westmont, 63 years ago, we were volunteers at Holy Trinity Church. We got involved and became part of the family. I love Westmont.”
“It is my honor to be here today,” says Mayor Ron Gunter, who was on hand to pass out a proclamation to those being recognized. “I think it’s great that we live in such a wonderful community where people are so close that we can have this type of celebration with our senior citizens.”
The Westmont Senior Center offers many activities throughout the year. Whether it be Movie Mondays, Birthday Bingo, Book Review Club, or Monthly Senior Trips, there’s something for everyone. Many people start to get involved as they begin retirement. Horek speaks highly of the Senior Center Director, “Linda is the most wonderful leader for us. We love her dearly.”
“We are so lucky to have six people who are 90 or more,” says Wonderlin. The Westmont Senior Center invites the community to come and learn more about what they have to offer. For more info, call 630-969-8080.
