Each year, the Westmont Special Events Corporation (WSEC) coordinates a Community-Wide Garage Sale, which encourages residents to hold their garage sales during the same weekend to bring out the bargain hunters en masse. This year’s event will be held on Friday & Saturday, August 8 & 9. Participants are encouraged to start their sales at 8 a.m. and be finished by 5 p.m. No garage sale permit is necessary for this specific event on these dates.
“We usually have over 100 participants hosting garage sales during this weekend, and this year is no different” says Westmont Communications Director Larry McIntyre. “A complete listing of sales, addresses, and items for sale will be listed on the Village Website on Tuesday, August 5. Printed copies of the garage list can be picked up at the Village Hall, Fire Department, Police Department, Westmont Library, and the Park District.”
Garage sales are not only a great way to find a bargain, but they also have a positive impact on the environment. Reusing items that still have value, rather than throwing them away and ending up in a landfill, is part of the “Three R’s” campaign - Reduce, Reuse & Recycling.
