Following the lead of the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), the Westmont Lions Club Red, White & BBQ (RWBBQ) Festival will be sponsoring an activity to help local families in need by collecting donations at this year’s event to support the People’s Resource Center. “The first responsibility of the Westmont Lions Club is to serve the community,” says RWBBQ Competition Chair Jim Addington. “If we can collect donations of nonperishable items to pass on to area families, then that would be a great thing for our community to support.”
The RWBBQ Festival will be held at Ty Warner Park (corner of Blackhawk and Plaza) on Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25. If residents bring non-perishable donations to the Lions Club Information Tent at the event, then they will receive “BBQ Bucks” which can be redeemed for purchases at the event.
“In addition, we have received a commitment from some of our contestants that they will cook BBQ at the event and then donate it to local families through our People’s Resource Center,” adds Addington. “We think this is an exciting new aspect to this event.” For more information regarding the RWBBQ, please visit their website at WestmontBBQ.com.
Also, don’t forget the St. Jude’s Race To The Flag 5K (RTTF), held at Ty Warner Park on Sunday, May 25. All proceeds from the RTTF event benefits St. Jude’s Children Hospital. To sign up or learn more about the RTTF, visit their website at RaceToTheFlag.org.
