“We’re happy to announce that this year’s street resurfacing program will be our most ambitious roadway project in the history of the community,” says Municipal Services Director Steve May. Last year, the Village identified new revenue streams that were used to secure bonds that will allow the Village to invest more than $8 million over three years in community road repairs.
“Unfortunately, these specific funds must only be used for street repairs due to Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) requirements, which does not address any of our community stormwater management issues,” says Trustee Steve Nero, who chairs the Public Works Committee. “The Village will be taking a hard look at this topic over the next few months as we look into the possibility of creating a Stormwater Utility.”
An independent engineering firm, Infrastructure Management Services, Inc., was contracted in 2012 to perform a Laser Dynaflect study of all roadways in the community to create an initial assessment of road repairs. This information, along with construction logistics as well as staff assessment regarding additional concerns, was used to create the ranking of this road resurfacing project.
“We anticipate this first project to begin construction by May 1st and be completed within approximately four weeks,” says Noriel Noriega, Public Works Supervisor of Engineering. “For people who live on streets that won’t be immediately addressed in this first phase, we appreciate their continued patience. The Village also anticipates a fall resurfacing program in 2014.”
