[ARCHIVED] New 2014 Brush Pick-Up & Yard Waste Programs

Village of Westmont
Date Issued: March 21, 2014

The new contract between the Village of Westmont and Waste Management provides some new services for residents and the community. “We’re extremely pleased with the agreement we negotiated with Waste Management,” says Stephen May, Westmont Municipal Services Director. There have been some modifications to our community Brush Pick-Up Program that will result in expanded service and opportunity for our residents.

VILLAGE BRUSH PICK-UP KICKOFF
The Village will conduct an initial brush pick-up service “kickoff” during the month of April to collect large brush that may have accumulated over the winter. This initial pick-up will be serviced by the Village of Westmont Public Works Department. For this initial pick-up only, brush should be placed at the curb.

Resident SOUTH of the BNSF RxR

by Sunday, APRIL 20, 2014

Beginning April 28, 2014, all brush pick-ups for the rest of the year will be administered by Waste Management and brush will be collected on your usual garbage pick days at your usual garbage location.

NEW WASTE MANAGEMENT BRUSH PICK-UP PROGRAM
Upon completing the initial Brush Pick-Up Kickoff, Waste Management will provide a weekly brush pick-up service for the rest of the year through Friday, December 12. The dates of this program will coincide with the Yard Waste Collection Program, which is also provided by Waste Management.

Regarding the weekly Brush Pick-Up Program, branches and tree limbs must be tied with twine or string into bundles no more than 4 feet long and 1 ½ feet in diameter. Each bundle must weigh less than fifty (50) pounds. Trees, stumps, and branches larger than six (6) inches in diameter cannot be collected as yard waste. Brush pick-up requirements must be followed or items may not be picked up and be subject to a fine. Brush should be placed alongside your other refuse on your usual trash pickup day. No sticker is required for brush pickup.

Yard Waste should be placed out with your regular refuse on your usual pick-up day. Yard Waste must be placed in appropriate yard waste bags. A Westmont Yard Waste Sticker must be affixed to each yard waste bag.

For more information, contact Waste Management at www.wm.com or 800-796-9696.
