Westmont, Illinois – Date Issued: October 18, 2023
To help prevent flooding and clogged sewers, residents are asked to help keep all excess fallen leaves cleared from their yards, gutters, and curbs. Maintaining your property and raking leaves also protects the water supply from pollution caused by the phosphorus released from decomposing leaves, which leads to the development of algae blooms and decreases the oxygen for our local fish. Fallen leaves also have the potential to create localized flooding of our storm drains if not properly and regularly cleared.
DuPage County Stormwater Management has published a video on their YouTube Channel emphasizing the importance of composting leaves and keeping them out of our storm drains and sewers to prevent flooding and other problems.
YARD WASTE PROGRAMWaste Management provides a Yard Waste Program for the Village of Westmont from early April to early December to make the disposal of leaves easy and convenient for residents. This year’s Yard Waste Program will end Friday, December 15. Details regarding the Yard Waste Program have been published on the Village website.
FREE LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAMIn 2023, from November 6 through December 1, residents can put out an unlimited number of kraft paper bags of leaves without a yard waste sticker. Other yard waste such as grass clippings need to be in a separate kraft bag or container and require a yard waste sticker.
