Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: Oct. 16, 2023

Wicked West Fest is a month-long celebration of fall and Halloween-themed fun during the month of October in Westmont. One of the Wicked West Fest activities is the Scarecrow Decorating Contest, which invites the entire community to be creative and decorate a scarecrow, which is then placed in downtown Westmont for online judging. The contest is hosted by the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and serves as a fundraiser for the Westmont Historical Society.
This year, the Village of Westmont Finance and Communications Departments joined forces to participate in the contest and create an entry that celebrates WGN-TV’s Sarah Jindra, who is a former Westmont High School alum and well-known “Westmont is the Bestmont” advocate. The scarecrow design included a toy WGN Traffic Helicopter, a replica of Sarah’s Key to the Village, an on-air headset, and a “Westmont is the Bestmont” t-shirt. The Sarah Jindra scarecrow is located in front of Village Hall at 31 W. Quincy Street.
Sarah was very excited to hear about the idea and decided to do a feature report on the contest and the entry in her likeness on her new WGN show Spotlight Chicago. The segment aired on Thursday, October 12 at 3:00 p.m. and a copy of the segment has been published on the WGN News YouTube page.
The Village invites everyone to check out the entire Wicked West Fest schedule and make plans to come out and join the fun. Be sure to visit the Westmont Chamber website and vote for your favorite scarecrow.
