Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: Oct. 9, 2023

The Westmont Environmental Improvement Committee (EIC) is coordinating a new activity for this year’s Wicked West Fest Trick Or Treat Trail event. The Grand Prize Pumpkin Game will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Irving Street just west of Cass Avenue. The new Grand Prize Pumpkin Game will invite Trick or Treat Trail participants to play the game in which prizes are earned for each bucket you can toss a toy pumpkin into. The goal of the activity is to promote pumpkin composting and encourage citizens to not throw their used pumpkins in the garbage.
PUMPKIN COMPOST COLLECTION - NOV. 4, 9AM-NOON AT WESTMONT LIBRARY
The EIC is once again hosting a Pumpkin Composting Collection Event on the Saturday after Halloween. This year’s event will be held Saturday, November 4 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass Avenue.
All pumpkins must be cleaned free of inorganic materials such as candles and other decorations prior to being disposed in the composting collection container. Participants will enter the library parking lot from West Traube Avenue. EIC volunteers will guide vehicles to the pumpkin composting container, which will be located at the southwest corner of the parking lot, then they will make sure the pumpkin is free of inorganic materials and throw the pumpkin into the dumpster.
Westmont has been providing a pumpkin composting option for residents for over a decade. The program helps keep pumpkins out of the landfills, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions and returns water and essential nutrients back into the soil.
