Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: October 6, 2023

Village Board Approves Arts DuPage Proclamation - Graphic - 2023-10-05

At their October 5, 2023 meeting, the Westmont Village Board approved a proclamation recognizing October as Arts DuPage Month. Deborah Venezia, Director of Arts DuPage, was present for the approval of the proclamation and shared some important statistics regarding the importance of having a successful arts program in your community.

“We thank the Village of Westmont for continuing to embrace the arts, sending a positive message to Westmont residents and visitors that allows them to recognize the vital role the creative sector plays in our communities,” said Venezia. “Through their advocacy, organizations such as Salt Creek Ballet, Westmont Performing Arts, Westmont Special Events and the Creative Arts Network, and many others, add to the local vibrancy, drive the economy, and bring attention to the region.”

The proclamation celebrating October as Arts DuPage Month in the Village of Westmont included the following:

  • The  arts,  culture,  and  humanities  are  the  embodiment  of  all  things  beautiful  and  entertaining  in  the  world -- the  enduring  record  of  human  achievement.
  • The  arts,  culture,  and  humanities  enhance  every  aspect  of  life  in  the  Village  of  Westmont  --  improving  our  economy,  enriching  our  civic  life,  driving  tourism,  and  exerting  a  profound  positive  influence  on the education of our children.
  • The  arts  promote  a  better  understanding  of  the  diversified  cultures  within  our  communities  and  unify  us  regardless  of  age,  race,  and  ethnicity.
  • The  arts  sector  in  DuPage  County  consists  of  2,272  arts  related  businesses  and  account  for  4.2  percent  of  the  total  number  of  businesses  in  the  region,  a  larger  share  of  the  economy  than  transportation,  tourism,  agriculture,  and  construction.
  • The arts provide full-time employment for  over 15,000 workers in DuPage County.
  • The  arts  improve  our  economy,  enrich  our  civic  life,  drive  tourism  and  commerce,  and  exert  a  profound  positive  influence  on  the  education  of  our  children.
