Citizens are encouraged to drop off their unwanted and unused prescription drugs in drop boxes located in lobbies of the Westmont Police Department at 500 N. Cass Avenue, and the Westmont Fire Department at 6015 S. Cass Avenue. Citizens have access to the drop boxes during regular Police and Fire Department office hours when the lobby is open, typically Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. These dropboxes are a convenient and accessible way for citizens to dispose of unwanted medications that might otherwise be misused or end up in our waterways or landfills.
Disposing Instructions
- Bring household medication including over-the-counter, prescription medications, inhalers, ointments and liquid medications that are expired or no longer wanted
- All medications must be contained in original packaging, pill bottle, or a zip seal bag
- If you plan to recycle the original container/packaging, remove any personal information on the label to reduce concerns about personal identification information
- Deposit your medications in the prescription medication deposit box
- NOTE - Do NOT dispose of medication in the collection container for “sharps”
Items Not Accepted
Please note, this program is limited to prescription drugs only and other items should not be deposited for collection. The following items are NOT accepted in the dropbox:
- NO THERMOMETERS OR DEVICES
- NO PILL ORGANIZERS
- NO HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS/VITAMINS
- NO LANCETS OR TESTING STRIPS
- NO PEN INJECTORS
- NO COSMETICS
- NO SHAMPOO/SHAVING CREAM
- NO PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS
- NO BATTERIES
- NO ILLICIT-DRUGS
- NO RADIOACTIVE DRUGS
- NO HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL WASTE
- NO MEDICAL WASTE
- NO SHARPS, NEEDLES, EPI PENS - However, there is a Sharps Disposal Kiosk in the Police-Fire facility lobby at 500 N. Cass Avenue. Check out our Police Department FAQ for more information regarding sharps disposal.
