Earlier this year, the Village of Westmont Board of Trustees awarded a contract to Chicago-based Duncan Associates to conduct a review and update of the Village of Westmont Zoning Ordinance. The goal of this project is to update the zoning regulations to better align with current land use and development practices and to ensure that the zoning regulations are consistent with Village policies.
Over the past several months, Duncan Associates has been working with the Community Development Department (CD) staff to gather information and identify needed ordinance changes. The process included an in-depth review of the existing zoning ordinance, field research of existing conditions in the Village, meetings with staff, and interviews with various zoning ordinance users including builders, architects, residents, and business owners.
In September, Duncan Associates submitted an “Assessment and Project Direction Report” to CD and the Westmont Planning and Zoning Commission. A copy of this report, along with other information about the review and update process, has been published on a newly created 2023-2024 Zoning Ordinance Review & Update webpage, which is located under the Community Development section of the Village website.
Public participation and feedback will be important to the completion of the Zoning Ordinance update. Please watch the Village website and news releases for public hearing meeting notices and additional updates.
