Westmont, Illinois – Date Issued: August 2, 2023

As an official Dementia-Friendly community, the Village of Westmont, Westmont Public Library, and other public agencies continue to promote education and awareness opportunities to engage the public regarding this challenging issue.
These programs are designed for persons with dementia, their caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more about this topic. Following is information on the next presentation:
EFFICIENTLY COMMUNICATING WITH INDIVIDUALS WITH DEMENTIA
Wednesday, September 13, 1-2:30p
Jennifer Wilson Binotti with Compassionate Neuropsychology helps us understand common behaviors of individuals with dementia and teaches us how to differentiate when untruths are helpful and when they are detrimental.
ELDER LAW & DEMENTIA
Wednesday, October 4, 1-2:30p
Many people are unprepared to deal with the legal and financial consequences of a serious illness such as Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Mary Kay Furiasse with AZ Health Elder Law will discuss basic legal and financial documents such as wills, living trusts, and advance directives.
UNDERSTANDING THE STAGES OF ALZHEIMER’S
Wednesday, November 1, 1-2:30p
In this program, Patti Terkovich and Mary Ferguson with Birches Assisted Living and Memory Care will provide a useful frame of reference regarding the stages of Alzheimer's. Knowing what to expect can help caregivers know what to anticipate, allow time to plan accordingly, and help reduce the stress of the unknown.
MEMORY CAFE

Come join us for a social gathering of individuals living with dementia and their care partners. We offer a place where both care partner and care recipient can socialize together and connect with others in a similar situation. Activities at the Memory Cafe are free.
