Date Issued: Dec. 3, 2013
“We estimate over 2000 people came to downtown Westmont for these events,” says Westmont Holly Days COmmittee Chair Steve Golembiewski. “This being our first year combining the Holly Days Parade and other events with Small Business Saturday, I think it was a big success!”
On Saturday, Nov. 30, downtown Westmont was a flurry of activity. In the morning, there was a 5K race, followed by a Coffee with the Mayor event, and then several special activities throughout the day at various downtown business locations. At 5 p.m., the Frosty and Friends Parade kicked off and was followed by the annual tree lighting ceremony and pictures with Santa.
“Everyone I talked to was very enthusiastic about these events,” says Mayor Ron Gunter, who led the tree lighting countdown with Santa. “We’re already talking about next year and we’re planning to make things even bigger and better. We want to make sure we thank WestmontAutoMile.com and all of our sponsors for their generous support. This event would not be possible without them.”
A video of the Holly Days Parade is posted on the Westmont YouTube Channel. The video is also playing daily on Comcast Channel 6 at 11:30 a.m. Additionally, photos from the event including pictures with Santa can be found in the Village’s online photo gallery. Pictures and the video can be accessed from the main page of the Village Website at www.Westmont.Illinois.gov.
Westmont Holly Days is co-hosted by the Westmont Park District, Westmont Chamber of Commerce, Westmont Special Events, Westmont Historical Society, and the Village of Westmont. Look for more Holly Days activities throughout the month of December. For more information, go to www.wpd4fun.org.
