As an official Dementia-Friendly community, the Village of Westmont, Westmont Public Library, and other public agencies continue to promote education and awareness opportunities to engage the public regarding this difficult topic.
The Westmont Public Library is committed to hosting monthly dementia-friendly presentations. These programs are designed for persons with dementia, their caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more about this topic. Following is a list of upcoming presentations:
- NORMAL AGING VS. DEMENTIA
Wednesday, March 1, 1:00-2:00pm
This program explores the differences in our brains, tips to keep your brain healthy, and steps to take should you need to consider professional services. - PUZZLED BY SENIOR LIVING (2 presentation dates)
Wednesday, April 5, 1:00-2:00pm; Wednesday, April 12, 6:30-7:30pm
Join a discussion of the various senior living options, costs, and services, as well as when you should start thinking about making the move. - COMMUNICATION AND BEHAVIOR
Wednesday, May 3, 1:00-2:00pm
Dru Lazzara from AdventHealth-Great Lakes Region will review the basics of dementia, discuss the importance of understanding behavior as communication, and explore ways to communicate more successfully with individuals who have been diagnosed with dementia.
These Dementia Friendly Westmont programs are presented by Birches Assisted Living and Memory Care. Each of these presentations require advance registration.
