At the December 1, 2022 Fire Safety Committee Meeting, Fire Chief Steve Riley recognized Deputy Fire Chief Jim Fitzgerald and presented him with the Fire Chief’s Citation for his commitment to serving our country as well as the Westmont Fire Department.
“We are very proud of Jim, not only for his service as a Deputy Chief with the Westmont Fire Department, but also as a Commander in the Coast Guard Reserve,” said Chief Riley. “Deputy Chief Fitzgerald has exemplified a life dedicated to public service and we appreciate his commitment."
Fitzgerald has been with the Westmont Fire Department for 25 years. Jim has served a total of 28 years in the fire service. Additionally, he is serving his 30th year in the Coast Guard Reserve where he has attained the rank of Commander and received Coast Guard & Army Commendation Medals. He has also been deployed three times to the Middle East and twice in the United States for various emergency response situations. Jim is currently a Lieutenant with the Chicago Fire Department, where he has served for 22 years. Fitzgerald has also received various accolades including the Center for Public Safety Excellence Chief Fire Officer designation and the State of Illinois Chief Fire Officer certification, which is the highest certification offered to an officer.
