Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: June 1, 2022
The Village of Westmont contracts with Clarke Mosquito Management to help control mosquito populations in the community. Clarke’s program includes surveillance for potential vectors and mosquito population levels, mapping and treatment of breeding sites, and treating catch basins with larvicides to prevent mosquitoes from developing into fly, biting adults. Clarke uses surveillance and trap counts to schedule applications for adult mosquito control. Also, as part of the mosquito management process, Clarke will schedule various larvicide sprayings via helicopter.
Clarke also monitors rainfall to determine when large broods of wet weather (nuisance) mosquitoes will be emerging. When conditions warrant, Clarke will perform after-hour spraying throughout the community to provide control for adult mosquito populations. The product used for this application is OMRI-listed and approved for use in residential areas. The treatment is applied by a truck and is performed between dusk and dawn, when adult mosquitoes are most active.
Residents who want to report standing water or nuisance mosquito levels, or would like to sign up for text and email notifications of scheduled mosquito control treatments are encouraged to register on Clarke’s Customer Portal at www.clarkeportal.com. Residents may also sign up for notifications via Clarke’s Mosquito Hotline at 1-800-942-2555.
