On May 12, 2022, representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Chicago and the Greater Chicago Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association (GCTEAA) made a donation of more than 200 Care Packages to the Village of Westmont. The presentation, which was made to Mayor Ron Gunter and Village Staff, was a token of appreciation for the ongoing positive relationship between Westmont and the Taiwanese community.
“On behalf of TECO and the Greater Chicago Taiwanese Emergency Assistance Association, we want to thank Mayor Gunter and the Village of Westmont for being a great friend to Taiwan,” said Justin Lee, TECO Deputy Director General. “We greatly appreciate all that Westmont has done for our community.” Mayor Gunter and the Village reciprocated with gift bags that included collectible items from last year’s 100th anniversary celebration.
Participating in the the donation event were TECO Deputy Director General Justin Lee, TECO Deputy Director Thomas Tsai, TECO Director of Cultural Center Kerry Lion, and TECO Deputy Director of Cultural Center Steve Huang, as well as GCTEAA President Shasha Chen, GCTEAA Vice President Luke Lin, GCTEAA Founder and Past President Bonnie Chin, and GCTEAA Past President James Chen. Representing the Village of Westmont were Mayor Ron Gunter, Village Manager Steve May, Westmont Communications Director & Sister City Co-Chair Larry McIntyre, Westmont Economic Development Director Larry Forssberg, Westmont Sister City Committee Member Tom Mulhearn, and Westmont Communications Specialist Jenny Babyar.
Mayor Gunter thanked everyone for their kindness and stated that everyone is looking forward to the return of more exchanges between the Village of Westmont and our friends from Taiwan. Photos from the exchange have been posted in the Westmont Photo Gallery.
